2015-12-09 19:00 2015-12-09 21:00 America/New_York Hanukah Celebration

Hanukah Celebration Wednesday, December 9th at 7pm Admission: $10 per person Special Musical Performance by The Touro Band Latkes and Lighting of the Menorah   The Touro Band The Touro Band grew from a group of musicians who are congregants of the Touro Synagogue in Newport RI, who wanted to play Jewish music for festivals celebrated at the synagogue. The band was joined by area folk and classical musicians who also love Jewish music. We play Klezmer, Yiddish, Israeli, and Sephardic music. The Sephardic music (referring to the Jews who came from Spain and Portugal after the expulsion of 1492) is in honor of the founders of Touro Synagogue, most of whom were Sephardic. The Touro Band has collaborated with Common Fence Music for a Klezmer workshop with the Boston-based Klezmer band Yiddishkeit which taught the Klezmer genre in a free workshop at Touro Synagogue for area musicians. For the Hanukkah Party of the King Center on December 9 we will play Jewish music in celebration of Hanukkah. We play music that is enjoyable and always include music that inspires the listeners to get up and dance the Hora!
