Important Update: Fitness Program Registration Now Requires Membership
As of this season, all fitness program registrations at the Edward King House now require an active membership with the Center. This change helps us better serve our community and streamline access to our programs.
If you are new to our program or need a renewal and have not received a membership card in the mail, please come in to the Center and we will register you on the spot.
Once your membership is active, you’ll be able to register for your favorite fitness classes and explore all the programs we have to offer.

Note: These classes are not meant to replace any medical care. Please check with your physician or medical practitioner before participating in any exercise class. Registering for these classes states that you agree that neither the Edward King House Senior Center, nor its trustees, representatives, employees, contractors and agents may be held liable in any way for an occurrence in connection with any activity which may result in injury, harm or other damages to the registrant or members of our organization and guests, invited or not.
Each class is sold in monthly bundles. Refunds are not available.

Drums And Stretch: A fun seated and standing workout program designed specifically for older adults. This unique class combines drumming, movement and music to improve physical and mental well being. No experience necessary. fun rhythmical drumming program designed specifically for older adults. This uniques wellness class combines the rhythms of drumming and movement to energize the brain and body for transformational results. No experience necessary. THIS PROGRAM WILL RETURN IN JANUARY
Pilates: Its muscle-strengthening benefits are great for people over 50. That’s because, as you get older, you start to lose muscle mass & engaging with a regular Pilates routine will help strengthen those muscles in the long-term. Must have camera on, participants will not be admitted after 9:10. Tuesdays – On Zoom 9am to 9:45am.
Balance Breath & Movement: Do you want to maintain or improve your mobility & strength? Is loss of balance and falling a concern? This program assesses your current abilities & incorporates balance, stretching, & strengthening movements to increase mind/body awareness. Must have camera. No admittance after 10:10. Tuesdays – On Zoom 10am to 10:30am.
Boxing Fitness: Throwing punches is a fun way to stay strong and fit at any age, but it is especially beneficial for older adults. Come get moving with professional boxer Karen Dulin from Newport Boxfit. Boxing moves are great for cognitive function. Tuesdays – 10am to 11am.
Silver Age Chair Yoga– Silver Age Chair Yoga is designed to meet the health needs of older adults. Safely participate at your own level of comfort. This is a gentle introduction to chair yoga. Seated chair postures as well as chair supported standing postures will be practiced. Bringing your own mat is required. THIS PROGRAM WILL RETURN IN JANUARY
Keeping Independence: Keep Your Independence through easy, fun movements designed to help you manage: stairs, chairs, cars, walking, balance and mind/body connections. This program is being offered at Donovan Manor in Newport (19 Chapel Street). Tuesdays – 11:15am to 12:15am.
Intermediate Yoga : Must have some experience with yoga before you take intermediate yoga. Explore the fundamentals as you learn to breathe and move deeply from within. Practice light movements with consciousness to build strength, balance, and flexibility and inner peace. Participants are required to bring their own mats. Wednesdays – 9am to 10am.
Silver Age Chair Yoga Dance: This class is full of Moving, Swinging, and Jiving. Chair Yoga Dance is done Sitting or Standing near a chair and blends yoga movement synchronized with a music soundtrack and is a whole lot of fun. Music from all eras and genres like pop, western, Motown and lots more. Bringing your own mat is required. THIS PROGRAM WILL RETURN IN JANUARY
Tai Chi: Tai Chi is a gentle exercise that is suitable for older adults, even if managing chronic conditions. It offers the benefits of flexibility, muscle strengthening, and endurance training. Tai Chi can improve the health of seniors without worsening existing impairments. Wednesdays – 10:30am to 11:30am.
F.A.S.T: Fun, Active, Strength Training is a dynamic upper, lower, and core exercise program that will incorporate nutrition tips and recipes. This class is for beginners and advanced participants, as modifications will be available. Instructed by Regina Dublin, RN. Wednesdays – 11:15am to 12:15am.

Country Line Dancing: Put on your boogie shoes and enjoy an hour of line dancing with Newport’s Community Police Officer and line dancing enthusiast, Merrie Scott. Thursdays – 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
