Newport Circle of Scholars Seeks Presenters for Fall Season

The Newport Circle of Scholars at the Edward King House is inviting proposals for new presenters for its upcoming Winter/Spring and Fall seasons for 2020.  The Newport Circle of Scholars is a non-profit volunteer organization that was created to provide lifelong learning programs for Newport County residents 50 years of age and older. Its programs are focused on both scholarly and general interest subjects such as history, literature, science, international events, health, and the arts. Its programs and instructor recruitment efforts are facilitated and coordinated by a Curriculum Committee, and its external relations and policy are guided by a Board of Directors.

Presenters are asked to engage seniors from the Edward King House membership and the public in a variety of settings—classes, workshops, research projects, seminars, roundtables, performances, etc.—all of which contribute to the intellectual vitality of the senior community at large. Presenters will be selected on the basis of the learning opportunities they offer as well as general interests. Presenters are offered a small honorarium for participating in this program.

Dear Friends of the Newport Circle of Scholars at the Edward King House,
As the Autumn season is creeping upon us, so is the opening of our Requests for Proposals for the Fall 2020 Season of the Newport Circle of Scholars program at the Edward King House.  As you can imagine, our sense of what is “ordinary” no longer exists and when the time comes for us to return to some semblance of “normal” our lives will never really be the same.
Having said this, we are looking forward to re-imagining how we can deliver the superb programming the senior community has come to rely on through the Newport Circle of Scholars.  In light of the current health concerns all NCOS programs will be delivered in a virtual manner utilizing the Edward King House Zoom account as host.  Instructors are welcome to join us from home or come to the King House to deliver their sessions, whichever helps you to feel more comfortable.  The EKH will be at the wheel to administer the program to ensure that it runs smoothly, including administering video, recorded music and PowerPoint presentations to be shared with participants.
In addition, we have had to make a few changes to what you have come to expect.  We ask that each session be made timed at only one hour (contrary to our usual 2 hours) and the stipend for each class has been reduced to $20 per class.  Lastly, NCOS classes will only be run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with a 1pm or 2:30pm time slot.  We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have about all of this at any time.
Whether you are a returning instructor or new to our program, we hope that you will take the time to submit your proposal no later than Monday, August 31st by clicking the link below.  It will take you to a Google form that will go directly to our offices for consideration.   Please remember to click the “submit” button when you have completed the form.
We look forward to your response and thank you in advance.
