Audition Notice for “The Book Club Play”

Gregory Geer’s Calvacade of Carnival Chaos is excited to announce auditions for our Spring play, “The Book Club Play” by Karen Zacarias. This comedy, following the members of a book club as a documentary is being filmed of their activities, explores human connections as well as the difference between popular and “serious” literature.
Audition participants should sign in by 7:30pm. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Director Greg Geer is seeking a diverse group of actors to fill the 7 roles for this Reader’s Theatre-style production.
– ANA SMITH (female presenting, any race): Accomplished. Organized. Her grace masks a need to control
– ROBERT SMITH, JR (male presenting, any race): ANA’s charismatic, underachieving husband
– WILLIAM NOTHNAGEL (male presenting, any race): ROBERT’S conservative, well-read college roommate
– JENNIFER McCLINTOCK (female presenting, any race): ANA’S friend. Shy. Smart. Prone to outbursts of awkward thrulthfulness
– LILY JACKSON (femaile presenting, African-American): ANA’s protege at the paper. A go-getter and former debate captain
– ALEX (male presenting), The new guy. Smart, well-read academic who has lost his moorings.
– PUNDIT (non-gender specific, any race) plays 5 different characters of differing genders and ages
Please come prepared with potential rehearsal conflict dates (evenings you’re not available, any vacation periods, etc.) Rehearsal nights (beginning February 9th) to be determined. Rehersals will be held at the Edward King House (with some virtual rehearsals included).
Production dates are Thursday, April 16th through Sunday, April 19th, with 2 shows (matinee and evening) on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th. For more information, please email carmela@edwardkinghouse.org
