Volunteer Ushers Needed for the Newport Jazz Festival
The Newport Jazz Festival is a cultural landmark event now operating – along with the Newport Folk Festival – under the non-profit organization Newport Festivals Foundation, Inc. Our mission is to foster the legacy and expand the impact of our Festivals through educational initiatives that celebrate innovation while preserving the deep traditions inherent in Jazz and Folk music.
Please visit the Jazz festival web site at www.newportjazz.org
Anyone interested in volunteering to be a Stage Usher is asked to please contact Ann Kiker:
(401) 662 – 0456
The Ushers work at the three different stages onsite at Fort Adams State Park and enjoy the music at their appointed stage during their shift. We provide free parking, a festival t-shirt and bottled water.
Showing ticketed patrons to their seats in the Reserved Seating Sections at the Main Stage.
Reminding patrons to not stand in the aisles or block the exits at the two tented stages.
Reminding patrons that there is No Standing inside the perimeter of the tents.
Reminding patrons that the Fire Lane walkways are also No Standing areas.
Volunteer Ushers may choose to work either a morning shift, an afternoon shift, or a double shift
Morning = 9:15 AM to 3:00 PM
Morning Shift Volunteers are welcome to stay for the rest of the day after their shift and enjoy the remainder of the festival.
Afternoon = 2:00 PM to 7:45 PM (usually a bit earlier; depending on the length of the last act)
Afternoon Shift Volunteers are welcome to arrive in the morning – enjoy the festival – and then report for their shift.
Double Shift in which case they receive an hour lunch break along with a meal ticket.
The festivals are held on State property and we are required to have criminal background checks run on all Staff and Volunteers. These background checks search only for felonious activity and are to ensure the safety of us all.
Volunteers must be 18+ years of age and able to stand in the sun for long periods of time.
