Fitness Programs (October)

Each class is sold in monthly bundles.  Refunds are not available.

Tuesdays

Pilates with Kathy from ShipShape (on Zoom)
Description: Its muscle-strengthening benefits mean that it is also very beneficial for over 50s. That’s because, as you get older, you start to lose muscle mass and engaging with a regular Pilates routine will help /strengthen those muscles in the long-term  Time: 9:00am  (10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25)

Balance , Breath and Movement with Kathy from ShipShape (on Zoom)
Description: Do you want to maintain or improve your mobility and strength as you age? Is loss of balance and falling a concern? This customized program assesses your current abilities and incorporates balance, stretching, and strengthening movements to increase mind/body awareness and incorporates balance, stretching, and strengthening movements. Time: 10:00am (10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25)

Silver Age Chair Yoga with Carmen (in-person/indoors)
Description: Silver Age Chair Yoga is a program designed to meet the special health needs of older adults. Safely participate at your own level of comfort. This is a gentle introduction to chair yoga. Seated chair postures as well as chair supported standing postures will be practiced. Time: 10:00am (10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25)

Boxing Fitness with Karen (in-person/indoors) 
Description:  Throwing punches is a fun way to stay strong and fit at any age, but it is especially beneficial for older adults. Come get moving with professional boxer Karen Dulin from Newport Boxfit. Boxing moves are great for cognitive function!   Time: 10:00am (10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25)

Keep Your Independence With Tommy @Donovan Manor (In Person/indoors)
Description: Keep Your Independence through easy, fun movements designed to help you manage: stairs, chairs, cars, walking, balance and mind/body connections. This program is being offered at Donovan Manor in Newport. Time: 11:15 (10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25)

Chair Yoga with Lynne (on Zoom)
Description: Chair Yoga via Zoom is a good opportunity to try it out or return to your practice; in your own home. Movement and de-stressing will be key to these sessions. Must have camera on and be able to see and be seen by instructor. Participants will not be admitted after 11:10am. Time: 11:00am (10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25)

Self Defense For Adults with Sensei Walter Renshaw (in-person indoors) NEW**
TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS – Description: Wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. These classes are ongoing and intended to help you build confidence in self defense techniques. Time: 4:00pm (10/4, 10/6, 10/11, 10/13, 10/18, 10/20, 10/25)

Wednesdays

Intermediate Yoga with Andrea (in-person/indoors) 
Description:  It is necessary to have some experience with yoga before you take intermediate yoga. Continue to explore the fundamentals as you learn to breathe and move deeply from within. Practice light movements with consciousness to build strength, balance, and flexibility and inner peace. Participants are required to bring their own mat and blocks. Time: 9:00am (10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26)

Gentle Yoga with Elizabeth (on Zoom)
Description:  Recommended for all levels looking for a soothing, relaxing, and restorative experience, especially those newer to yoga or working with special concerns or injuries.  Time: 9:00am (10/12, 10/19, 10/26)

Strength and Mobility with Cam (In-Person/indoors)

Description: This intermediate level class can be easily adapted to accommodate different needs and capabilities. It will focus on light strength training to build up muscular strength with balance and mobility work. The intervals are slowly paced with minimal up and down movement. Please bring light weights and a yoga mat.  Time: 10:00am  (10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26)

Tai Chi with Kenji (in-person/indoors)    
Description: Tai Chi is a slow and gentle exercise that is suitable for older adults, even if they are managing chronic conditions. It offers the benefits of flexibility, muscle strengthening, and endurance training. Tai Chi can improve the health of seniors without worsening existing impairments. Time: 10:30am (10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26)

The Alexander Technique with Mara (in-person/indoors)
Description: The Alexander Technique addresses posture, poise and pain relief. It teaches you how to think differently about how you move and carry yourself. You don’t need any physical skill, just an open and curious mind. Time: 1:00pm (10/6, 10/13, 10/20)
